He added that the drilling operation would be probably launched in one of the oil blocs of the Caspian Sea by the end of the current Iranian year, falling on March 19, 2005.
“By starting the drilling operations at Alborz rig, a great development would be occurred in the country’s oil industry”, he noted.
SADRA Co. is the contractor of the project, he said. In construction of this rig, the company is currently facing certain financial problems that “We hope they will be resolved soon and the project will come on stream by March 20.”
Dana explained that the bloc where the drilling operation is due to be carried out is located 250 km off Neka coast. Upon access to oil layers in this bloc, the construction of development and production rigs will be essential, he further explained.
The southern parts of the Caspian Sea that belong to Iran are very deep. The drilling operation in such deep areas is a significant measure so far taken in Iran’s oil industry. Moreover, a few oil companies worldwide are able to implement drilling in deep offshore areas.
Alborz semi-floating drilling rig weights 14,000 tons. After drilling an experimental well, the rig would launch the main drilling operation in the depth of 800 meters. It is able to carry out drilling up by 7000 meters under the sea.
The seismographic measures have already been taken in the blocs used in this project. Also, the oilfields of this bloc have been previously identified.
