APA to address regional security, economic convergence

TEHRAN, Nov. 21 (MNA) – Parliament Speaker Larijani who is en-route to Turkey to attend the 10th meeting of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) said the meeting will mainly address security issues and economic growth of member states.

Speaking to reporters at Tehran airport before departing for Turkey, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) can have a significant role in creating convergence in economics among the member states as well as resolving various issues of the region.

“One of the key themes of the APA meeting is the establishment of peace, security and stability in the region,” Larijani said, noting Iran’s efforts in fighting terrorism in the past few years.

“The ISIL has been for the most part eradicated in Syria and Iraq, and this is a great victory for the Iranian nation that succeeded in restoring peace and stability for the whole world by keeping up the resistance front,” he added.

Holding talks with participating officials at the APA meeting on economic cooperation is also on Larijani’s agenda during his stay in Turkey.

The 10th meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly will be held in Istanbul on Nov. 21-24, 2017 under the motto “Sustaining Peace and Development in Asia”.

Established in 2007 as continuation of an organization born in 1999, the APA currently comprises of 41 Member Parliaments and 17 observers.
