Iran wins AFC U-20 Futsal C’ship

TEHRAN, May. 26 (MNA) – Iran’s national futsal team defeated Iraq and won the title at the 2017 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-20 Futsal Championship in Thailand.

The first edition of the AFC U-20 Futsal Championship ended with Iran’s championship as the Iranian Futsal players defeated Iraqi squad 2-0 on Friday. Sahand Rezapour and own goal of Iraqis scored for the Iranian side.

Iranians also won the ticket to the futsal tournament at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The 2017 AFC U-20 Futsal Championship kicked off in Thailand on May 16, and Iran and 20 other Asian teams were pitted in four groups. Iranians were put in a pool with China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and the United Arab Emirates in Group D.

Afghanistan, Bahrain, Brunei, Iraq, Malaysia, Thailand are drawn in Group A. Group B consists of Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Japan, Tajikistan and Vietnam.

Hong Kong, Lebanon, Myanmar, Qatar and Uzbekistan shape Group C.

Iran pulled out a sweeping 6-0 victory over Mongolia on Wednesday in their opening encounter. The Iranians, who had defeated the United Arab Emirates 5-1 in their second Group D fixture at Indoor Stadium Huamark in the Thai capital city of Bangkok on Thursday May 18, routed the Chinese side 6-1 in their third match of the games on the next day.

Face Kyrgyzstan in their last preliminary round match, Iranians defeated the Kyrgyz with humiliating result of 10-0.

Iranians defeated Lebanon in the quarter final 6-2 and routed the Thais 7-5 before reaching the final venue of tournament.
