Following two weeks of competitions with 11 women grand masters at Tehran FIDE Women Grand Prix 2016, Iranian International Master (IM) Sara Khademalsharieh finished runner-up.
The event marked the second stage of Women’s Grand Prix where Khademalsharieh bagged four victories, six draws and only one defeat against rivals to stand on the silver podium with a total of seven points.
The 2016 Tehran Grand Prix was the second of four stages in the 2015-16 FIDE Grand Prix series that will determine who plays a 10-game match against the Women's World Champion in 2017.
Held from 11-23 February in in Iranian capital Tehran, the event was a 12-player single round-robin tournament with participation of GM Humpy Koneru (Indian), GM Ju Wenjun (China), GM Nana Dzagnidze (Georgia), GM Pia Cramling (Sweden), GM Dronavalli Harika (India), GM Antoaneta Stefanova (Bulgaria), GM Xue Zhao (China), GM Valentina Gunina (Russia), IM Nino Batsiashvili (Georgia), GM Natalia Zhukova (Ukraine), WGM Natalija Pogonina (Russia) as well as IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (Iran).
