TEHRAN, Jan. 09 (MNA) – Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General on Tuesday reaffirmed António Guterres’ unwavering position on supporting and continuing the 2015 Iran nuclear deal despite US lack of commitment.

When asked during his daily press briefing on Tuesday about the UN Secretary-General’s stance on JCPOA in light of the US’ threats to stop implementing its commitments under the agreement, Stephane Dujarric stressed that Guterres’ position on the JCPOA has been made “very clear both publicly and privately.”

“He [UN chief] thinks it is one of the more critical diplomatic achievements of the last years, and all the parties involved need to do whatever they can to help support and continue this agreement,” he said.

Dujarric’s remarks came as US President Donald Trump has shown lack of commitment to the landmark nuclear deal in the past year, and has been calling for the cancelation of what he has called “the worst deal ever” for Washington.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Zarif is slated for talks on the implementation of JCPOA with his British, French and German counterparts in a meeting to be hosted by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini on January 11 in Brussels.
