Iran’s Hassan Rouhani met Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzō Abe in New York on Sunday and said that, “the nuclear deal is an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries and we can cooperate in several fields including transport, environment, cultural and scientific issues as well as modern technologies like peaceful nuclear energy.”
Rouhani underscored the need for Iranian and Japanese scientific and technological centers to communicate with each other and expand their relations.
Referring to the spread of terrorism in the region, Iran’s president stated that, “in order to eradicate terrorism we need to promote the development and prosperity of the region in a way that terrorist groups could not abuse countries’ poverty to expand their activities.”
Japan’s prime minister, for his part, emphasized the need to focus on the strict implementation of JCPOA and offered to cooperate with Iran on this issue.
Underlining that Japan wants to play a role in developing Iran’s economy, Shinzō Abe added that, “we are ready to have joint collaboration in the fields of science, culture, environment, health and nuclear energy and we support engagement of Japan’s private sector as well as implementation of trade agreements with Iran.”
At the beginning of his speech, the Japanese official expressed his condolences over the death of a large number of Iranian pilgrims in Mina Tragedy.
