IRCS Providing Humanitarian Assistance to Iraqis

TEHRAN -- Iran's Red Crescent Society will dispatch two shipments of humanitarian assistance to Iraq today, according to the Mehr News Agency.

"Two relief shipments, including food, blankets, and medicine, will be sent to Iraq with the coordination of the International Red Cross Committee," said the secretary general of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), Abbas Sahraei.
He said that approximately 20,000 volunteers have been mobilized to gather contributions from Iranians for Iraqis.
He added that the IRCS will gather funds at this week's Friday prayers across the country.
"About 4000 Iraqi refugees have so far received assistance at checkpoints at the border with Iraq," Sahraei said, adding that IRCS units have been dispatched to the borders.
