Sadabad complex to host performance about Karbala tragedy

TEHRAN, Dec. 13 (MNA) -- Tehran’s Sadabad Cultural Historical Complex will be playing host to the pardehkhani (curtain-reading) performance with the central theme of tragedy of Karbala opening on the first day of Muharram (Dec.18).

The performance will narrate the tragedy Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions went through during their heroic struggle and sacred sacrifice to save Islam, as well as the day of Ashura when Imam Hussein (AS) and his seventy-two companions were martyred on 10th of Muharram.

“The performance is arranged to help familiarize people, especially the younger generation, with the tragedy of Karbala to understand more of the history of Islam through a live performance,” said director of the complex Alireza Moqimi.

“We also intend to promote the venerable cultural tradition of pardehkhani,” he added.

“Veteran morsheds (mentor) will be giving their performances over ten days in the afternoon,” he said, adding that an exhibition of teahouse paintings featuring the tragedy will also be open on the side section.

A collection of 30 works by prominent artists Hossein Qollar-Aqasi, Mohammad Modabber, Mirza Mehdi Shirazi and several more will be open on the side section and will be on display for one month.
