Ceremony to Commemorate Ma’aref at Vahdat Hall Monday

TEHRAN Dec. 21 (Mehr News Agency) –- A ceremony commemorating master Seyed Abbas Ma’aref is to be held tomorrow at Vahdat Hall, Tehran.

Several masters of wisdom, music, poetry and law are expected to take part in the ceremony.

 

Seyed Abbas Ma’aref was born in 1953 in Tehran. He became familiar with culture and literature in his childhood under the supervision of his father who was well versed in Islamic mysticism, and had a familiarity with the great poets of the time helping Ma’aref to develop his taste of poetry.

 

He studied Arab literature with Ayatollah Lankarani, and at the age of 13, he acquired the science of reasoning and philosophy from Allameh Semnani, learning Avicenna's philosophical magnum opus, Kitab ash-Shifa (Book of Healing), in less than 2 years.

 

He learned fiqh (Islamic law) and principles, and entered Tehran University to study political rights at the age of 18. While studying at university, he was also interested in learning music and physics.

 

The masnavi (couplet) named “Philosophy of History” is among Seyed Abbas Ma’aref’s works written based on the theory initiated by Dr. Fardid, called “Historical Periods”.

 

Ma’aref began teaching at Tehran University, and was a member of the group that compiled the constitutional law after the victory of the Islamic Revolution. He has also compiled labor laws.

 

His sudden illness in 1980, forced him to decrease his political-social activities and he died on December 22, 2002.

 

The “Divan,” “Islamic Economy,” theses in physics, fiqh, politics and law are among his works.
