Talabani invites Rafsanjani to visit Iraq

TEHRAN, Oct. 26 (MNA) – Iraqi President Jalal Talababani has officially invited Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani to visit Baghdad and tour holy sites, the Expediency Council press office said in a report on Sunday.

“The people of Iraq are ready to host the chairman of the Expediency Council,” Talabni told Yasser Hashemi, the director of Rafsanjani’s office, at a meeting in the Strategic Research Center in Baghdad.

 

According to report, Talabani said he will “personally accompany Mr. Rafsanjani in touring holy sites.”

 

In his invitation letter to Rafsanjani the Iraqi president has stated, “In the light of the importance of relations between the two friendly and brotherly states of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq, I eagerly invite Your Excellency to visit this country (Iraq) in the first opportunity.”

 

Yasser Hashemi who had visited Baghdad at the invitation of Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, the leader of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC), met with Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani and a number of other ulema in Najfa, Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki, the president of Autonomous Kurdish Government in Iraq Massoud Barzani, and Vice President Adel Abdul Mahdi and conveyed Rafsanjani’s warm greetings to them.
