Mohtashamipur told the Mehr News Agency on Saturday that Washington has proposed the initiative to gain political dominion over regional nations and control over their energy resources.
He noted that arrogant powers would never allow the third world countries to unite on the basis of their common interests.
“Because,” he stated “they will get out of control of the greater powers, especially in the prosperous Middle East region with its vast potentials.”
Mohtashamipur added that the United States and some other Western countries share common interests with the Zionist regime and that’s why they support it unquestionably.
As for ways to prevent implementation of the Greater Middle East Initiative, he said “public resistance” is one of the most important tools to block the implementation of the plan.
He added that the “resistance of nations” has always been a challenge to U.S. policies.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the former interior minister said that the main objective behind the U.S. plan to establish diplomatic relations between Israel and Arab countries is to create an “Israel-centered common market in the Middle East”.
In the U.S. scenario, he added, Israel will not only be the cornerstone of all political, social, cultural, and economic decisions, it will also gain control over the regional oil market and water resources, which come second after oil in the Middle East.
He said Washington policy is based on divide and rule in the region.
He said some leaders in the Islamic countries, particularly those in the Arab world, are dependant on the U.S. support for ruling their country but the White House knows well that if these leaders succeed to settle disputes in their countries they will no longer obey Washington.
On the victory of Lebanon’s Hezbollah over the Zionist regime in the 33-day war last summer, he said “Hezbollah’s victory proved that Israel is not invincible.”
Mohtashamipur argued that the United States and the Zionist regime are allegedly planning to attack Lebanon and Syria in the next few months to compensate Israel’s defeat in the 33-day war.
He further noted that Washington is plotting to drag Hezbollah into a civil war.
The cleric praised Hezbollah for not falling into the U.S. trap, saying if Hezbollah had become involved in the White House’s political game, its national and international prestige would have suffered greatly.
Questioned about Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s political future, he said Nasrallah is an “honest, noble man who is concerned about the national interests of Lebanon” and will never seek a “political position” in the Lebanese government, unless others invite him to accept such a duty.
