Iran has no obligation beyond JCPOA terms

TEHRAN, Sep. 19 (MNA) – Iran's nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi stressed that the Islamic Republic adheres to nothing beyond IAEA safeguards, Additional Protocol and the text of the nuclear deal.

Speaking to reporters following his meeting with IAEA chief Yukiya Amano on Monday in Vienna, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said that he had a productive session with Amano. The IAEA chief confirmed Iran’s adherence to their commitments under the nuclear deal and Salehi, for his part, thanked the Agency for taking an impartial stance toward the JCPOA issue.

Salehi went on to add, “during this meeting, we declared our commitment to all the terms mentioned in the safeguard agreement, Additional Protocol and JCPOA and that we have no obligations to keep beyond these terms.”

Salehi and Amano also discussed a number of projects proposed to Iran by IAEA to be undertaken with the Agency’s assistance. The IAEA has voiced readiness to develop these projects.

“On the whole, the meeting was very positive and productive and Amano also presented a report of his meetings with other figures concerning JCPOA,” said Salehi.

He further noted, “we insisted that the Agency act independently and not according to recommendations of others. We believe that the IAEA has so far been loyal to the JCPOA agreement.”
