Iranian President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks in his meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 6th International Conference on Palestinian Intifada that is currently underway in Tehran with representatives of 80 countries in attendance.
“To settle the various regional issues, there is no other way but consultations and joint cooperation amon involved countries,” the President stressed.
He went on to add, “Iran and Lebanon took the Syrian people’s sides in the fight against terrorism and if it were not for this cooperation, Damascus would have now turned into ISIL capital in the region.”
“Currently, within the framework of such close cooperation the regional situation is far better than how it was a year ago, and thus we need to continue our interactions in this regard,” he said.
Rouhani further highlighted Iran’s determination for establishing peace and security in the region, promoting good neighborliness, and settling existing issues through negotiations and mutual understanding.
The Lebanese senior official, for his part, voiced his country’s resolve for expanding relations and economic cooperation with Iran.
Noting that Tehran and Beirut share common interests and enemies, he added “enemies are seeking to make new divisions in regional countries. I testify before God and history that the Islamic Republic of Iran is under a lot of pressure for resisting enemy plots and giving support to oppressed but resilient nations in the region.”
