Iran welcomes deepening ties with EU

TEHRAN, Feb. 14 (MNA) – President Hassan Rouhani has said Iran would stay committed to its obligations under any deal as long as others do not breach it.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will stay committed to its obligations as long as the other sides keep their promises,” said President Hassan Rouhani of the Islamic Republic of Iran during his Tuesday morning meeting with visiting Luxembourgish Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn in Sa’adabad Palace at North of Tehran. “The JCPOA was a deal crafted and signed based on a win-win approach, and it is the duty of all to keep it going.”

Reminding the good relations between the two countries, President Rouhani underlined the importance of expanding finance, insurance, and bank cooperation between the two countries and highlighted that the key to expansion of economic ties is having good insurancial and banking cooperation in which cooperation can yield in good results.

“Iran, on one side, is the best potential provider of EU’s needed energy and, on the other side, provides an important transit route between Europe and the Indian Ocean and the East Asia,” asserted the Iranian President while recounting the rare opportunities of investing on Iran’s oil, petrol, petrochemicals, transportation, mines, and industries sectors created in the post-JCPOA environment.

Developing bilateral cooperation on scientific and cultural areas between Iran and the European Union, according to President Rouhani, were as important as developing political and economic cooperation for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“After the successful resolution of the nuclear issue between Iran and Europe, the context is ready for developing and deepening such bilateral cooperation,” articulated the Iranian president after hailing the historical and traditional relations between Iran and Europe.

Pointing to the regional problems of terrorism and extremism, Mr. Rouhani stated that there are common problems challenging all and they would be only one solution for them via strong determination and more cooperation and interaction between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the European Union.  

The Luxembourgish foreign minister, for his part, voiced his satisfaction with his visit to Tehran and stressed that his country is determined to expand bilateral ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
