Withdrawing from the NPT as a legal measure will contribute to preserving the country’s national identity and interests, Hamid Katouzian told the Mehr News Agency on Tuesday.
Since the U.S. is trying to use the Middle East as its backyard it has seriously embarked on isolating Iran as the main hurdle to its interests in the region, he commented.
Considering the diplomatic pressure on Iran and the nature of the protocol, which allows for snap inspection of its facilities, the signing of the protocol would be a humiliation, he commented.
"It would be a simple-minded view if we think that by signing the protocol the pressure would stop or Iran's status would be enhanced in they eyes of the world," he added.
Katouzian also noted that the risks resulting from signing the additional protocol to the NPT or withdrawing from it are equal for Iran.
The political analyst also went on to say that if Iran chose to withdraw from the NPT it meant that it has not surrendered to the U.S. bullying.
