Akhlaghi in second chance group hopeful for bronze

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 15 (MNA) – Iran’s 85kg Greco-Roman representative has emerged victorious in qualification but lost in round of 16 thus going to second chance group and hopes for a bronze.

Habibollah Akhlaghi defeated with a crushing result Zakarias Berg in the first round. He would have faced either Russian Davit Chakvetadze or Saman Tahmasebi, Iranian born representative of Republic of Azerbaijan. During the match Chakvetadze won the match to meet Akhlaghi in the next round.

Among famous names in the group were world bronze medalist from Hungary Viktor Lőrincz, Maksim Manukyan from Armenia, Rustam Assakalov, the Uzbek silver medalist. Ukranian Zhan Beleniuk and Belorussian Javid Hamzatov are the most famous wrestlers of the category.

Akhlaghi however lost to Chakvetadze in the round of 16 only to squander hopes for a gold which was highly expected from him. He will fight in the second chance group for a bronze medal. The defeat came rather not unexpected when Akhlaghi had been a loser 9-2 and lost before the last seconds by fall.
