The parliament speakers of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, China and Russia held their second conference on the challenges of terrorism in the Iranian capital Tehran on Saturday.
At the end of the two-day conference, the parliament speakers of the six participating countries issued a final statement in which they stressed the role that parliaments can play in the fight against terrorism.
The participants voiced their opposition to double standards and pursuing geopolitical self-interests. They also voiced their support for expansion of international cooperation.
The statement also condemned terrorist attacks in member countries of China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russian Federation, Turkey and Iran. They strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in the Iranian port city of Chabahar, which left two dead and over 30 others injured.
The participants also urged the security apparatuses of the member states to create a special mechanism to exchange covert and overt intelligence on terrorists.
Improving intra-regional relations through strengthening potentials in the fields of trade, investment, infrastructure, tourism, and the people to people and cultural relations would be beneficial for all nations, the statement stressed.
The member states further agreed to hold the next edition of the conference in the Turkish city of Istanbul in the coming year.
