Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with Federica Maria Mogherini, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on Friday in the morning.
The meeting during a working breakfast in opulent Palais Coburg Hotel of Vienna was intended to give a chance to Zarif and Mogherini to exchange ideas prior to the ministerial meeting of the day with foreign ministers of Russia, UK, Germany, France and China.
The Friday ministerial meeting is the first foreign ministers' meeting by parties remaining within the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) after US President Trump unilaterally abandoned the deal.
Hours before the Friday meeting, the Iranian diplomatic chief Zarif posted a message on his Twitter page late on Thursday, warning the world that having both Iran comply with the nuclear agreement and sanctions against Iran at the same time is impossible.
The Friday meeting of EU/E3+2 top diplomats in Vienna is intended for discussing the package of P4+1 (Germany plus permanent members of the UNSC but US) which contains offers to keep Iran in the deal.
