“On the condition that other parties of the JCPOA offer Iran their firm assurance that Iran’s interests will be met and the damage caused by US pullout will be compensated, then it is possible to keep the JCPOA alive,” said Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, on Thursday.
The Iranian diplomat made the remarks during a meeting with Sergey Ryabkov, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, who is visiting Tehran. The meeting was in line with continuous exchange of views between Tehran and Moscow.
The main topic of the bilateral discussion of Thursday was the latest status of the JCPOA (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action signed by Iran and Sextet on July 14, 2015) after US withdrawal from the agreement. US unilateral pullout from the nuclear deal and how to continue the agreement after US exit were discussed by Iranian and Russian diplomats.
In addition to describing Trump’s decision as a threat to international peace and security, Mr. Ryabkov voiced his regret over the US move. He reassured that his country will stay in the agreement with full commitment and will do its best to preserve the deal in cooperation with other sides of the agreement.
The Iranian diplomat, for his part, announced that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue dialogues with European sides of the agreement as well as with Russia and China to weigh the possibility of continuing the agreement.
He also referred to numerous cases of US non-compliance regarding its JCPOA-related commitments.
