Speaking at a joint press conference with Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan Mian Raza Rabbani, Iran’s Ali Larijani said constructive talks had been held with the neighboring country on promotion of economic interactions between the two sides and removal of certain barriers in this regard.
“Good negotiations were held over cooperation in various fields like energy as well as fight against terrorism in the region,” he added.
Speaker of the Iranian Parliament said Tehran and Islamabad had close collaborations in international communities and both parties are eager to sign an MoU for stronger parliamentary ties.
He later appreciated presence of chairman of the Senate of Pakistan at President Rouhani’s inauguration ceremony and also wished success for the new Pakistani government.
Later at the joint press conference, Rabbani voiced pleasure that his visit to Iran had coincided with inaugural ceremony of the Iranian President.
The visiting official, who is leading a top-ranking delegation to Tehran, confirmed Dr. Larijani’s remarks on age-old history of relations between Iran and Pakistan noting that bilateral ties between the two sides had deep cultural and religious dimensions.
The official recalled Islamic Republic of Iran had been the first country to recognize independence of Pakistan saying “the Pakistani government has also been on the side of Iran during tough sanction years.”
Rabbani expressed hope that the stance taken by Pakistan towards Iran would form basis of joint cooperation between the two sides in parliamentary, energy, economic and security fields.
He later called for finalization of draft of MoU for cooperation between the two parliaments so that experiences can be shared.
