TEHRAN, Jan. 21 (MNA) – Iran’s deputy-FM for Arab and African affairs has headed Iran’s delegation to Astana round of talks on Syrian crisis.

Mr. Hossein Jaberi Ansari and his entourage arrived in Astana earlier on Saturday. As part of his agenda, Mr. Jaberi Ansari talked in separate meetings with head of Russian delegation Alexander Lavrentiev, the Russian president's special envoy on Middle East affairs.

Jaberi Ansari then met with Head of Turkish delegation to Astana, Deputy-FM and Head of Department for Middle East Affairs Sedat Onal.

Astana meeting on Syrian crisis is a Kazakh initiative to contribute to Moscow trilateral meeting. A possible US participation in the meeting had been the subject of debate, with Iran and Russia setting themselves in the two extremes of the continuum; Iran opposed any US participation, while Russia had welcomed the US and sent invitations, to which a Trump administration has decided to send US ambassador to Kazakhstan as it srepresentative.
