Qajar era photos of shrine of Imam Reza (AS) on display in Tehran

TEHRAN, Dec. 13 (MNA) -- Photos of the holy shrine Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad taken during Qajar era are currently on display in an exhibit at the Niavaran Cultural Historical Complex.

The showcase is being held on the occasion of the mourning ceremony of Muharram, the lunar month that marks the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and a number of his followers.

A total of 12 photos taken by anonymous Qajar photographers as well as Abdollah Qajar are on display at the event, Niavaran announced in a press release.

Constructed in 11th century, the shrine complex of Imam Reza (AS) has been damaged and changed throughout history due to attacks and wars. In each era, the embellishments to and the boundaries of the complex underwent changes.

The exhibit is cosponsored by Tehran’s Malek Museum, which was originally a library affiliated with the Astan-e Qods Museum in Mashhad.

The exhibit will run until December 21 at the complex’s Ahmad-Shahi Pavilion (or Kushk-e Ahmad-Shahi).
