Emirates Airlines Warned Against Using “Gulf” for “Persian Gulf”

TEHRAN Jan. 9 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iranian civil aviation authorities warned United Arab Emirates’ national flag carrier, Emirates Airlines, not to use “Gulf” for “Persian Gulf” any more.

Fars News Agency quoted an aviation expert on Wednesday as saying that if the Emirates Company continues in its policy, it shall be closed down.

Two months ago, the state-owned airliner made an official apology for the use of “Gulf” instead of “Persian Gulf” following the last written admonition sent by the Iranian civil aviation authorities. The company also pledged not to repeat the mistake in future.

Emirates Airlines, launched in October 25, 1985, is wholly owned by the Government of Dubai, but is recognized as an international airline of the United Arab Emirates.
