151st IPU Assembly kicks off in Geneva

TEHRAN, Oct. 19 (MNA) – The 151st edition of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) kicked off in Geneva on Sunday entitled “upholding humanitarian norms and supporting humanitarian action in times of crisis”.

Headed by Iranian Deputy Parliament Speaker Hamidreza Hajibabaei, the meeting will run through October 23.

During this five-day meeting, Iran’s parliamentary delegation, in addition to attending general meetings and specialized committees, will hold bilateral meetings with the heads and members of various parliaments in order to expand parliamentary cooperation and exchange views on the most important regional and international issues.

All IPU statutory bodies, including the Governing Council, Standing Committees, Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and on Middle East Questions, as well as the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young MPs, will meet on this occasion.

The Assembly is also expected to adopt resolutions on the emergency item and on the subject item taken up by the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights entitled “recognizing and supporting the victims of illegal international adoption and taking measures to prevent this practice”.

The Assembly will feature the announcement of the winner of the 2025 Cremer-Passy Prize, honoring a parliamentarian who has shown exceptional leadership in gender equality, the IPU’s theme of the year.
