Iran’s deputy justice minister for international affairs Askar Jalalian said on Monday that fourteen Iranian prisoners held in Iraq have been extradited from the Arab country.
Jalalian went on to say that since the implementation of the extradition agreement inked between Tehran and Baghdad, the seventh group of Iranian inmates detained in Iraqi prisons were repatriated to the country from the Mehran border in Iran's western province of Ilam.
Following efforts by the Iranian Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the consulate general in the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad, the inmates were repatriated and handed over to Iranian authorities to serve their prison terms, he added.
He noted that a number of other Iranian prisoners detained in Turkish and Armenian prisons will be extradited to the country in the coming weeks.
