India calls for speedier construction of gas pipeline from Iran

TEHRAN, Feb. 24 (MNA) – The Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman recently said that the Indian government has called for an acceleration in the implementation of the Iran-India gas pipeline project.

According to the reports, when the Indian government voted against peaceful nuclear activities in Iran, the probability of building the gas pipeline between the two countries had increased however, the recent visit of Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mahdi Safari to India put an end to all these concerns. Safari was the first Iranian official to visit India since New Delhi voted in favor of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) resolution against Iran.

 

At the same time, in a condition that the India - U.S. nuclear cooperation negotiations are presently underway, the United States has asked New Delhi to cancel its gas contract with the Islamic Republic of Iran; however, the Indian officials has once again reiterated their commitment to the Iran gas transfer project.

 

In line with the development, the Indian foreign ministry spokesman called for the acceleration of concluding a contract with the Islamic Republic for the transference of Iran’s LNG gas to India.

 

Safari’s recent visit to India has assured the Indian officials that Iran will not cancel any of its contracts with India, even after India voted in favor of the IAEA resolution against Iran.
