Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, who also heads the Iranian delegation at Astana Process, has departed for Moscow on Tuesday morning to hold talks on the latest developments in Syria and regional cooperation between Iran and Russia.
During the 7th International Meeting on Syria held on 30-31 October in Astana, while the negotiations failed to reach an agreement on the two key points regarding the demining and exchange of detainees, the three guarantor states – Iran, Russia and Turkey – released a joint statement which includes agreements on implementation of the de-escalation deal, advancing the political process, further increase of international humanitarian aid, and convening a congress to bring about a lasting political solution to the ongoing conflict in the country.
Speaking to reporters at the end of the 7th round of the Astana peace process, Jaberi Ansari said that each guarantor state agreed to set up 12 observation and security posts in Syria’s Idlib aimed at implementing the de-escalation agreement.
