Economic war against Iran 'a serious threat'

TEHRAN, Oct. 30 (MNA) – Head of Passive Defense Organization of Iran Brig. Gen. Gholamreza Jalali said the Islamic Republic of Iran is truly involved in a war against its economy.

Gen. Gholamreza Jalali made the remarks during National Conference on Passive Defense kicked off Monday morning at IRIB International Conference Center.

“In 2002, political and military elites emphasized the importance of observation, recognition and filtration of threats, aiming at encountering or neutralizing them”, said Brig. Gen. Gholamreza Jalali, adding, “subsequently, Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei issued a decree in 2003, requiring Passive Defense Organization to play an active role in governmental organizations and ministries to observe and assess threats and areas of vulnerability and to offer solutions thereof”.

Pointing to the history of threats posed by enemies of Islamic Republic of Iran and the changes they have undergone, Jalali said, cyber threat is approximately encompassing all fields.

Iranian Brig. Gen. Gholamreza Jalali classified threats of modern world into two categories which are technology-based and people-oriented threats. He said media is also playing two different roles with regard to it, acting as a deterrent or inciting threats and tensions.

He went on to say that “since we’ve reached a defensive capacity to withdraw enemies, we are encountering with a new threat involving our economy."

Head of Passive Defense Organization of Iran Brig. Gen. Gholamreza Jalali said, “though US is resorting to international organizations such as WTO to economically put pressure on Iran, we are ready to encounter US threats in any area”.

Iranian Brig. Gen. Gholamreza Jalali underlined the importance of preserving cyber infrastructure including electricity, gas and nuclear as areas of vulnerability since these areas are dependent on cyberspace that can be employed as a threat to put pressure on Iran.
