IAEA envoy criticizes 5+1 for underperforming JCPOA

TEHRAN, Jun. 16 (MNA) – Reza Najafi, Iran’s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), lashed out at JCPOA signatory states for lack of commitment to the deal.

“A year after putting the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) into practice, the commitment of other sides of the deal, especially the US is unacceptable,” said Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative in International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi on Thursday.

The Iranian diplomat made the remarks addressing the quarterly meeting of the agency’s Board of Governors in the Austrian capital city of Vienna. He criticized the other member states of the nuclear agreement of July 14, 2015, after pointing to the re-affirmations of the International Atomic Energy Agency that Iran’s nuclear program has been in line with the articles of the agreement in the past two years.

He articulated that the reciprocal action and full commitment of the others ides of the agreement is the vital base and principle element of preserving the JCPOA alive.

He underlined that Iran, while fulfilling its own commitments, is consciously watching the other sides’ allegiance to the JCPOA.

Mr. Najafi then stressed that it has been clearly asserted in the agreement that all anti-Iran sanctions of the UN and all unilateral or multilateral embargos related to the nuclear issue have to be removed completely.

The Iranian official highlighted the role of the 5+1 states in terms of the nuclear agreement saying that the 5+1 states are obliged to practice the JCPOA with benevolence, in a constructive atmosphere, based on reciprocal respect to avoid any measure in contradiction with the soul and intention of the JCPOA that would undermine its successful implementation.

He also described the secret nuclear program of Israel as the major source of concern for the region.

The Iranian diplomat opened his address offering gratitude to states who sympathized with Tehran over the terrorist attack of last Wednesday.
