Mr. Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Mrs. Helga Schmid sat in a meeting in Brussels to discuss Syrian crisis as it topped the agenda Mr. Jaberi Ansari follows for the visit. Both sides shared the view that political and diplomatic solutions should be considered for the crises in the Middle East to which Syrian crisis also belonged.
Mrs. Schmid hailed Iran’s constructive role in the region and in Syria; “EU talks with Iran has a focus on Syrian crisis; as a major player in Syria, Iran would provide excellent contribution to the ceasefire and reconstruction plans for the country; active engagement of the UN and other players would help solve the crisis sooner than it would be assumed,” she told Jaberi Ansari.
Mr. Ansari said that Iran had systematically rejected military intervention as viable solutions to the crises; “we believe all countries should play a more facilitating role in Syria and should recognize the right of the nation to decide on their own political fate so that Syrian territorial integrity and national sovereignty are respected and saved,” he added. “With ongoing political, security, and humanitarian crises on the ground in Syria, we believe reconstruction and delivery of the aid should parallel peace process and political national dialogue which would be unconditional and should at the same time address the active branches of terrorism still threatening the security across the country,” he concluded.
