Saudi plots to drag US into Yemen war

TEHRAN, Oct. 18 (MNA) – FM spokesman said the claim of missiles fired at US warships off Yemen may be a new Saudi plot to bring Washington in direct confrontation with Ansar Allah and Yemeni people.

Iranian Foreign Minister Spokesman, Bahram Ghasemi, said that it can be inferred from Saudi Arabia’s repeated defeats in the course of regional developments and particularly in its aggression against Yemen, that the regime is looking for new measures to involve other players in the Yemeni war.

“The claim that US warships had come under missile attacks from Yemen can very well be a new plot devised by Saudi Arabia and some American circles to involve Washington in direct confrontation with Ansar Allah and Yemeni people,” he said.

Ghasemi deemed the aim of Saudi Arabia for devising the plot a way out of the dead-end in Yemen war, adding “I advise American authorities to monitor events realistically and closely, and be wary of the traps that others set for them in the region. US needs to use its past experiences in Iraq, Syria and other countries [to avoid making the same mistakes].”

The Iranian diplomat warned that US’s involvement in new ‘swamps’ such as the war in Yemen will be highly perilous and harmful for themselves and other countries in the region and the world.

Ghasemi then talked about the recent Lausanne talks on Syria, saying “this was the first time that regional countries, US and Russia came together to discuss the Syrian issue, therefore it was natural that the talks would not have a breakthrough at such an early stage.”

“We are doubtful that all participating countries at Lausanne talks have the required good will and sympathy for the nation and government of Syria,” he said.

He went on to add, “some of the participants have double standards: on the one hand, they sponsor terrorists and aggressors in Syria and on the other, they don a humanitarian and peace-seeking mask during the talks.”

“Due to the outstanding nature of the Syrian issue in the international arena and its sensitivity for the region and other countries, we will see more of such meetings in the future,” he said.
