Following his meeting and a press conference with Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende earlier today, Mohammad Javad Zarif met with Preisdent of Norway’s Parliament, Olemic Thommessen, where the two sides conferred on bilateral relations, particularly on parliamentary cooperation and regional issues.
Zarif highlighted the various areas for expanding bilateral cooperation with Norway in the post-sanction era, and welcomed the prospect of boosting parliamentary ties with the Scandinavian country. He also maintained that the two countries could ramp up economic cooperation in various fields from fishery to energy.
The Norwegian official, for his part, voiced keen interest in developing relations with Iran and expressed hope for further parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
The two sides further exchanged views on the Syrian crisis and ways to achieve a political solution to settle the conflict.
Zarif, who is in Oslo to attend the two-day Oslo Forum with US Secretary of State John Kerry, EU Chief Federica Mogherini and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nation Jan Eliasson among other key participants, is also slated to hold talks with a number of Norwegian officials as well as John Kerry to pursue America’s fulfillment of JCPOA obligations.
