Minsk to host Iran-Belarus Joint Economic Commission

TEHRAN, May. 01 (MNA) – Iran industry minister heading a delegation will set off to Minsk to attend the 13th Iran-Belarus Joint Economic Commission’s meeting held in the Belarusian capital on Wednesday.

During the two-day meeting, the sides will discuss ways to develop economic and commercial relations, executing joint projects and reviewing possible obstacles in the development of bilateral cooperation.

The previous commission’s meeting was held in March 2015 and hosted by Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Trade in Tehran. Belarusian Minister of Industries Vitaly Mikhailovich Vovk had then visited Iran to participate in the meeting.

Political cooperation between Iran and Belarus are held at the highest level, but the economic relations are not compatible with the two countries’ various capacities. Last year, the volume of trade transactions between Tehran and Minsk merely stood at about $75 million.

Mohammad Reza Sabouri, Iran’s Ambassador to Minsk, told the state-owned Belarusian news agency BelTA that the two countries will further strengthen their political ties, expressing confidence that the volume of trade could also increase three times this year as compared to last years.

In a visit in late February between Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valentin Rybakov and Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour in Tehran, the two sides signed a three-year MoU for further cooperation.
