The second stage of the 2016 ITTF-Asia Olympic Games Qualification Tournament for table tennis at the 2016 Summer Olympics was held in Hong Kong with a total of eleven places available in each of the Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles events.
The final two names in each of the Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles events were decided on the evening of Saturday 16th April.
Iran’s Noshad Alamian had suffered a defeat against the Indian rival in the first round failing to receive direct tickets to Rio 2016.
However, competing in the losers’ group, Alamian recorded a 4-1 success over Hong Kong’s Jiang Tianyi (8-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-6, 11-4) in order to bag an Olympic berth.
Noshad Alamiyan is presently named at no.132 on the Men’s World Rankings while Jiang Tianyi is at no.53.
Noshad Alamian marked the third Iranian Olympian for the tennis event in Rio as Neda Shahsavari and Nima Alamian had previously won Olympic berths in the Central Asian region qualification event as the first stage of the qualifying event.
