Time to ‘appraise JCPOA gains,’ to avoid criticism

TEHRAN, Jan. 31 (MNA) – Iran’s Javad Zarif has said regional enemies of the JCPOA have waged misguided attempt to signal that Iran is not yet secure place for investments.

Mohammad Javad Zarif who was addressing a meeting of ‘Post-JCPOA Opportunities’ in the Ministry of Interior on Saturday, lambasted the domestic critics of the JCPOA as well as its foreign enemies, believing that time had come to cast the past claims of the imagined failure of the agreement; “we should now enjoy the gains of the JCPOA and clearly examine what we have gained out of 2 years of hectic negotiations; those who criticize the JCPOA are in harmony with those foreign enemies of the deal who are now disgruntled at the prospect of Iran’s better situation as a magnet of international investments,” Mr. Zarif emphasized.

“We should sit and see the JCPOA in different lights and from different angles; the first happy perspective is to explore what dire and unfavorable situation were avoided through signing of the deal; an image of a villain state who was considered a threat to global order and security. To see this image in those times is far too easy so as to rule out the argumentation to prove; they [enemies] especially Israel would justify every action against Iran and Netanyahu would return to Tel Aviv with a bunch of another series of sanctions against Iran the next year,” Zarif said, “they also would limit the options of the president of the US to suspend sanctions and zero Iran’s exports of crude oil.”

“Saudi rulers had been working hard so that JCPOA would not be hammered out. They had been seeking to create huge barriers in the way of any investments in Iran and in the long run, stifle economic growth; so a clear outcome JCPOA has for Iran was that it crossed out such possibilities and the claims on Iran’s nuclear program's military dimension,” he told the meeting. “More importantly, it shattered the image and the environment and the very mentality against Iran.”

Zarif then turned to domestic critics who would oppose the JCPOA at any price; “they would voice concerns whether powers would be committed to their obligations should Iran attended its own quota of commitments; the same mentality governed the minds of the ‘western side,’ to which the implementation was a remedy,” he added.

Foreign minister called for a general examination of the motives of opponents of the JCPOA ; “we should do a few things in a national scale which includes but is not limited to finding their motives, hidden or expressed, and to oppose their own motives in response; before implementation of the JCPOA, the opponents were working to show international community that Iran is not reliable and a safe haven for investments and economic activity whatsoever; US Congress acts also sought to discourage trade with Iran; Saudi Arabian attempted to raise the costs of cooperation with Iran by intensifying the conflict, hollow and ill-conceived however,” Zarif emphasized.

“The domestic opponents as well would be accomplice in the very act of foreign enemies, since they would aid enemies' declaring that JCPOA was a bane for their agenda of demonizing Iran; We need foreign investment should we seek to have an 8-percent economic growth in the Vision Plan and this investment would not be embraced in an environment where there is no conducive grounds to foster the foreign investment,” said the foreign minister. “The US as well have understood the importance of Iran in terms of economy and accurately evaluate the situation not to lose in competition with EU companies, for example Donald Trump has objected that why should Airbus win the race in signing lucrative agreements with Iran and Boeing should lag behind ,” he concluded.
