The first Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans and Turkish Foreign Minister Feridun Sinirlioglu met in Istanbul to discuss the issue of Syrian refugees housed in more than 20 camps in various parts of the country.
Before the meeting, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the refugee issue with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and European Council President Donald Tusk, the daily Hurriyet said.
Ankara searches for the EU to confirm its 3-billion-euro contribution to provide assistance to refugees and to fund offshore operations. Of that, 500 million euros would come from the EU budget and the rest from the 28 member states according to their national incomes, media reports said.
