Iran’s Hossein Amir-Abdollahian spoke on the phone with the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and the two sides emphasized the necessity of a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
The Iranian and Russian deputy FMs further underlined the need for holding Syrian-Syrian talks with the participation of different groups and without foreign interference or external pressure.
Bogdanov urged Iran to attend the next meeting in Vienna deeming the role of Iran in helping to resolve the crisis in Damascus as essential.
Iran and Russia have emphasized the need for a political solution to the issues in Syria and Yemen since the beginning of the Syrian crisis as well as the beginning of Saudi-led airstrikes of the so-called Arab coalition against Yemen which have led to thousands of deaths and left tens of thousands homeless.
