Iran, Syria discuss scientific cooperation

DAMASCUS, Oct. 20 (MNA) – Syrian Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) on Tue. stressed the deep-rooted ties linking the two peoples of Syria and Iran and hailed the Iranian people’s support to Syria in its war against terrorism.

During his meeting with a delegation of the Al-Mustafa International University in Iran headed by its Rector Dr. Ali Reza Al’rafi, Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed said that the visit is a chance to thank and appreciate the Iranian government and people for backing Syria while facing the conspiracy since five years ago. 

Al’rafi, in turn, reiterated his country’s supportive stance to the Syrian people in facing the terrorist Takfiri ideology, appreciating the endeavors of the Syrian clerks in enhancing the original discourse of Islam. 

He further stressed the necessity of upgrading the scientific cooperation between the two countries.

Minister al-Sayyed presented a copy of the standard version of "Quran" to the visiting delegation.

Elsewhere, Syrian Minister of Higher Education Mohammad Amer Mardini discussed on Tuesday with Rector of the Iranian Al Mustafa International University Ali-Reza A'arafi prospects of cooperation and the possibility of opening a branch of the University in Syria.

Minister Mardini underlined the importance of enhancing scientific relations between Syria and Iran and benefiting from the scientific advancements and progress made by the Iranian universities in the various applied and human sciences.

For his part, A'arafi said he would consider the prospect of opening a new branch of the university in Syria, noting that the University already has sixty branches spread across the world.
