Iran plans to increase fisheries exports to Russia

TEHRAN, Oct. 17 (MNA) – Deputy agriculture minister has announced the production of 140 thousand tons of trout in the current Iranian year and expressed hope that fisheries exports to Russia will hit five thousand tons.

Head of Iran Fisheries Organization Hassan Salehi referred to a 15-percent decline in trout production compared to the previous year and expressed hope for the compensation of the decline in the current year.

Salehi estimated the current year’s production of trout to be 140 thousand tones; “Iran’s trout export is not satisfactory while this type of fish is highly consumed by the people in the country,” he added.

“If Iranians can fulfill the needs of Russian businessmen, the export of trout is likely to hit two or three thousand tons,” he asserted.

Deputy minister of agriculture, noting the export of Iran's shrimp to Russia, said, “shipments have been sent from Iran to Russia and both sides have reached a good agreement in this regard.”

“Iranian businessmen have made concrete plans to have a permanent presence in Russia ‘s wholesale centers and are signing long-term contracts with Russian businessmen,” Salehi underlined.

Head of Iran’s fisheries organization expressed hope towards an increased export of all fisheries products to Russia and noted, “shrimp is the major product which is currently being exported to Russia.”
