Iran’s Habibinezhad showed strong progress throughout the competition in Astana and has reached the finals in the light welterweight (63.5kg) category.
The 26-year-old Iranian maintained focus until the end of the match against Kazakhstan’s Zhandos Kydyraliev and succeeded in defeating his opponent.
Habibinezhad will compete for the title against Uzbekistan’s Adkhamjon Mukhiddinov.
Other Iranian boxers Meisam Gheshlaghi (80 kg) and Ali Fathi (92 kg) each won bronze medals in the sporting event.
The Iranian team is using this event as part of their preparation for the Boxing Road to Paris 2nd World Qualification Tournament in Thailand.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from May 24 to June 2 at the Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. A total of 51 remaining Paris 2024 Olympic quota places (23 for women and 28 for men) will be up for grabs across 13 Olympic boxing weight categories (6 for women and 7 for men).
