TEHRAN, Jun. 14 (MNA) – In a message on Wednesday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi congratulated his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Russia Day, also known as Russia National Day.

Raeisi's congratulatory message was the second congratulatory message from Iran to Russin after earlier this week's message from the Iranian foreign ministry.

"The Ministry of foreign affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran extends its sincerest congratulations to the Russian government and people on the National Day of the Russian Federation -Russia Day. Wishing peace, progress & prosperity for Russia & its friendly people. Russia Day is a national holiday in the Russian Federation celebrated annually on June 12. In accordance with the Russian Labor Code, it is an official public holiday," the Iranian diplomatic apparatus wrote on its Twitter page on June 12.

On this day, in 1991, the Russian parliament formally declared Russian sovereignty from the Soviet Union. The holiday was officially established in 1992.
