TEHRAN, Jan. 11 (MNA) – The overall number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases worldwide has exceeded 305 million, while the number of fatalities has topped 5.48 million, the World Health Organization (WHO) said late on Monday.

As of January 10, as many as 305,914,601 novel coronavirus cases and 5,486,304 coronavirus-associated deaths were registered across the globe. The number of confirmed cases grew by 1,736,233 over the past day and the number of fatalities increased by 4,029, TASS reported.

The biggest number of new cases registered worldwide in one day since the start of the pandemic was reported on January 6, when information about 2,741,367 COVID-19 cases was submitted to the WHO within 24 hours. The WHO statistics are based on officially confirmed data from the countries.

The threshold of 300 million cases was crossed on January 8, of 250 million - on November 9, of 200 million - on August 5.

The biggest number of coronavirus cases was reported from the United States (59,138,083), followed by India (35,707,727), Brazil (22,499,525), the United Kingdom (14,475,196) and France (11,823,789). The biggest number of fatalities was reported from the United States (830,334), followed by Brazil (619,937), India (483,936), Russia (316,904) and Mexico (300,303).
