TEHRAN, Apr. 03 (MNA) – Foreign Policy Commission Spokesman Abolfazl Amouei said, "Gradual and step-by-step return of US to the agreement is rejected in our view."

He believes that the United States is responsible for the current crisis in the implementation of the obligations under the nuclear agreement, given that the country withdrew from the agreement in 2018 and violated UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

Amouei told Al-Masirah network correspondent that the United States also prevented other countries from fulfilling their obligations to the point that it emptied the nuclear deal of its economic benefits for Iran.

"Iran has legally reduced its obligations under Articles 26 and 36 of the nuclear deal," he said, "Iran's steps to reduce its obligations are legal and within the framework of the nuclear deal because it was the American side that withdrew."

"The US move to return to the nuclear deal is a retreat from the wrong decision to pull out of the deal. The policy of maximum economic pressure imposed on Iran has, by their own admission, failed, and sanctions must be completely lifted."

"The United States must abide by its obligations under the agreement and lift sanctions in a tangible way," he noted.

"The nuclear deal urged the lifting of 800 restrictions on lifting sanctions," he said, "[However], about 800 more restrictions were imposed during the Trump administration, so all 1,600 sanctions should be lifted," Amouei said.

"Gradual and step-by-step return to the agreement is rejected in our view. It was the US that made the mistake and it is the US who must correct this mistake."
