TEHRAN, Nov. 7 (MNA) – Iranian weightlifter and Olympic Champion Sohrab Moradi has collected three gold medals in men’s 96kg at 2018 World Weightlifting, breaking the longest standing world records.

The 29-year-old Iranian athlete broke the world record in snatch by lifting 176kg in his first attempt.

In clean and jerk, Moradi conquered 223kg in his first attempt and secured his gold medal, breaking the world’s record. Then he lifted 230kg for the second attempt. He chose 237kg for the third round but failed to break his own record again.

The young athlete also broke the total of snatch and clean and jerk records during the competition, earning 3 gold medals in total in a single day.

The 2018 World Weightlifting Championships kicked off on November 1 in Ashgabat and it will wrap up on November 10. Some 600 athletes from 88 countries are participating in the event.
