TEHRAN, Jul. 16 (MNA) – Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) participates in 8 major environmental projects in Iran, said JICA Iran Office Chief Representative Yukiharu Kobayashi.

Restoration of Lake Urmia and Anzali Lagoon and fighting Tehran’s air pollution are among these projects, Kobayashi told IRNA on Monday.

Touching upon the history of JICA’s activities in Iran, he said that the agency is also cooperating with the country in devising plans for facing earthquakes and mitigating its effects.

JICA Iran Office has invested 1.1 billion Japanese yen in different projects across the country in 2016, he said, adding that figures related to the year 2017 has not been published yet.

Kobayashi has traveled to Shahr-e Kord in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province to take part in a joint committee on the project of integrated management plan for Karun basin (also known as JIAC2 project).
