TEHRAN, Jul. 12 (MNA) – In a Wednesday meeting in Tehran, the Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi and Austria's deputy foreign minister for cultural affairs called for increased bilateral ties in cultural domains.

Diplomatic ties between Iran and Austria go back to some 160 years ago, said Salehi, adding that recent Iranian President’s visit to Austria demonstrates the deep level of Tehran-Vienna political ties.

He went on to say that there are many grounds in cultural, scientific, artistic and religious domains for boosting cooperation between the two countries.

Iran embassy in Austria and Austrian cultural association in Iran have had appropriate cooperation in recent years and Iran is ready to continue and enhance these relations, he added.

Touching upon the inclusion of Persian as an optional language in some Austrian Universities’ syllabus, Salehi highlighted that this is a good move to propagate the Persian language.

The Austrian official, for her part, expressed happiness over her visit to Iran.

She went on to say that the aim of her trip is to follow up on the achievements in the culture sphere during President Rouhani’s recent trip to Austria.

Touching upon various cultural activities of Austrian embassy in Iran, she highlighted the need to further increase bilateral ties in various cultural domains, including museum cooperation and holding dialogue on religion.
