Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif cable a letter of condolences to his counterpart from Vatican offering condolences for the demise of former Foreign Minister of Vatican Jean-Louis Tauran, announced the Iranian foreign ministry early on Monday.
“I received the saddening news of the demise of Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue and Chamberlain of the Holy Roman Church, with deep sorrows,” reads the opening of Mr. Zarif’s message to Archbishop Paul Gallagher.
“This cultured figure was one of the religious and scientific elites of the holy place who was free from ignorance, extremism, and religious prejudices,” reads the message of Mr. Zarif in memory of the late cardinal.
"I express my condolences for the loss of this late figure to your highness, all Catholic Christians of the world, and the dear Catholic Christian citizens of Iran, and I ask God for his soul’s peace and tranquility."
