TEHRAN, Jun. 30 (MNA) – Iranian Expediency Council called upon the Iranian parliament to remove the ambiguities concerning the bill of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC).

The high supervisory board of the Expediency Council held a meeting on Saturday in Tehran under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaie.

During the meeting, the members of the council asserted that some articles of the bill are in opposition to the policies of the resistance economy already approved by the parliament.

Iranian vice-president for legal affairs and the chairmen of parliament’s national security and foreign policy commission, and legal and jurisdictional commission were among the participants of the meeting.

After several hours of debate, the council reached a unanimous agreement to require parliament to delineate on the articles of the bill to ensure the lack of any incongruities between the bill and the resistance economy policies.

UNODC, the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, adopted by General Assembly resolution 55/25 of 15 November 2000, is the main international instrument in the fight against transnational organized crime.

It opened for signature by member states at a High-level Political Conference convened for that purpose in Palermo, Italy, on December 12-15, 2000, and entered into force on September 29, 2003.
