Behrouz Kamalvandi said Monday that the AEOI has begun carrying out the project on developing nuclear propulsion with the budget allocated to the national nuclear agency in response to Iran Sanctions Act passed by US legislators and other such provocations.
“The Americans and Europeans are not happy with the prospect of Iran’s development of nuclear propulsions, but the project has gone underway at the AEOI,” Kamalvandi said. “While the project is underway, we cannot say at this moment that we would complete it by next year. The execution of the plan has a very complicated process.”
He went on to add, “the process requires four to five years of research and simulation work, and the work on the fuel and reactor has a very complicated procedure. Expert meetings are regularly being held to examine the project, but the details are confidential and cannot be discussed with the public.”
Last December, the Iranian president ordered the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) to start developing nuclear propulsion capability for marine transportation. President Rouhani said the move is a response to US violation of the nuclear deal with Iran.
Kamalvandi also added that the country would begin development of its uranium mines on a massive scale in 2018.
