Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC) Alireza Kameli touched upon the latest status of the project for constructing Iran-Oman pipeline stating “activities related to the gas pipeline project are being carried out rapidly as the marine survey has been completed and evaluation of the obtained information in being undertaken.”
The official estimated that onshore and offshore studies will reach conclusion within months asserting “upon receiving the outcomes of studies, actions will be taken together with the Omani side over choosing a contracting company for the pipeline project.”
Highlighting that several Asian and European companies have voiced readiness to make investments in the project of transferring Iranian gas to Oman, Kameli noted “a joint tender will soon be jointly made by Iran and Oman in order to choose an investor.”
The project of transferring gas from Kish field to Oman will cover a 200-kilometer pipeline which for the most part would be located under the water; in the first phase of the project, one million cubic feet of gas will be transferred while by development of other faces this amount will increase to three billion cubic feet per day.
The two sides had agreed to launch the project in a short time after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2013 while the plan reached a deadlock due to disputes between Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The project covers both onshore and offshore areas each requiring about 200 kilometers of pipelines as well as compression and measurement facilities.
Iran-Oman gas pipeline project manager Mohammad Akbarzadeh recently reported that the Dutch offshore engineering company INTECSEA has expressed interest in the construction of a subsea pipeline for supplying Iran’s natural gas to Oman.
